TRYOUT FAQ'S
Why are the tryouts a week long?
Athletes will learn both a jazz and kick dance along with other material throughout the week that will be required for Saturday's formal audition. The formal audition will be done in groups of 4-6 in front of the coaching staff.
What should I wear to tryouts?
Athletes should wear form fitting clothing (all black on the formal audition day, held on Saturday), dance/tennis shoes and hair should be out of their faces in a practice bun. Bring a water bottle!
What does formal tryout day look like?
Tryouts are done in groups determined by the coaching staff. Athletes must remain at the school in case they are called for a call back. Athletes are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and healthy snacks and should be prepared to try-out at any point throughout the tryout window. Stretched, fuel your bodies and plenty of rest the night before.
Will I find out which team (Varsity, JV or B-Squad) I made at the end of tryouts?
Typically you are notified either in person, by email or on our website by the end of tryout day if you made the team. Each year can be a little different depending on # of athletes trying out and skill level presented in front of us. We never want to rush our scoring process and want to spend the appropriate amount of time scoring and evaluating athletes before setting our roster. Placement on Varsity, JV or B-Squad will be determined at the beginning of the season at the end of October.
What is the time commitment to be on the Tiger Dance Team?
Our season runs from the end of October to the beginning of February and practices are 5 days a week and on Saturday's. Being a member of a high school sponsored sport means that all practices, competitions, and team events are mandatory. Attendance is not flexible for non-school related activities. Please visit our Dance Competition Schedule page for a listing of competitions.
